Barcelona appear to have averted an exit for Ronald Araujo in the coming weeks, with rumors of a new contract on the horizon. However, his future may not be as settled as it initially seemed.
It was revealed on Wednesday how sporting director Deco convinced Araujo to relinquish his wish to leave the club this month, but Marca adds that Juventus' proposals were insufficient for a sale anyway. Better options will be on the table in the summer. They say Barcelona may also continue to consider offers if an offer materializes in the coming weeks, with the asking price reportedly around €60-70 million. Barcelona do not want Araujo to leave and are willing to extend him, but will still consider offers for him.
The Madrid-based newspaper says no progress has been made on a new contract, although that contradicts most other sources. MD says a meeting between Araujo and Barcelona agents is imminent where they are expected to try to agree a new deal.
They confirm that an 'affordable' release clause will be worked into his new contract, which could last up to five years if the club gets their way. If Araujo decides in the summer that he still wants to leave, Barcelona has a way out for him.
It appears the affection of his teammates and the words of Hansi Flick have helped Araujo delay an impending departure. It was previously noted that Araujo's preferred destination would also be the Premier League if he were to leave, which is not on the table for him at the moment.
