Barcelona not concerned by stalled contract negotiations with star midfielder

Barcelona had made it a goal to ensure that none of their players entered the last year of their deals this summer, with the exception of veteran Robert Lewandowski. Both Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia, however, are in that situation.

The latter is expected that he is a new deal at a certain moment, where manager Hansi Flick makes a point to ask that he will stay at the club. In the meantime, De Jong is also expected to stay, but the Blaugrana has been received from the end of the Dutchman.

It has been reported that Barcelona and De Jong already have a verbal agreement to renew his deal with a wage reduction for the Dutchman, who is currently one of the two highest earners in the team next to Lewandowski. The plan is that De Jong would bind for another four years, making him 32 by the time his deal ends.

One of the most important factors in blocking negotiations that are underway for a large part of the past year was De Jong's decision to continue with Agent Ali Dursun, with whom the relationships were tense at the club. MD (via Semper Barca) says that De Jong should not yet break formal ties with Dursun, which is why the club is unable to push the renewal forward. Nevertheless, despite the time, Barcelona are relaxed about the situation and expect that the renewal will be confirmed earlier instead of later.

One of the reasons why Barcelona will hope that this is the case is the impact on their salary limit. If De Jong accepts a lower wage over the four years, which releases some extra space to register as Wojciech Szczesny, Joan Garcia and possibly Marcus Rashford will not be a small help. To make that happen, Barcelona must complete the renewal before the end of the transfer window.
