Barcelona has been very busy in recent weeks, with a new contract that agreed with Ronald Arajo, Pedri, Gavi and Pau Cubarsi. Sports director Deco has plans for more players to get innovations in the coming weeks, and one of those who will be spoken is Inigo Martinez.
Barcelona is happy this season with the versions of the veteran defender. He built a very strong partnership with Pau Cubarsi earlier in the campaign, and that was only broken in January when he sustained a muscular injury during the Spanish Super Cup final.
Weeks ago it was decided that Barcelona would offer a renewal to Martinez, where the club wanted the situation to be tackled even before he reached the game threshold that would cause an automatic extension of a year. However, nothing has been completed yet, and this is due to financial fair play.
Due to the aforementioned new contracts for Araujo, Pedri and Co, Barcelona does not have the salary space that is needed to register Martinez's new contract, and the situation would be the same, even if they waited until he led the expansion in his current deal. This gave the impression that at the end of the season there is a considerable danger about the 33-year-old who leaves.
However, MD says that there is no danger that Martinez will be forced to leave for free, because La Liga's Veto will only take effect in the summer, at which Barcelona has the necessary space in their salary limit to register him.
Barcelona is expected to separate with at least one central defender during the summer transfer window, given that Jonathan Tah will almost certainly arrive as soon as his Bayer Leverkusen contract ends. However, Martinez is not one that is on the maps to leave, with Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia being the leading candidates.
