Barcelona on alert as defensive target set for Atletico Madrid exit

Atletico Madrid are expected to make significant defensive changes for the second consecutive summer, with multiple departures at the end of the season. Axel Witsel and Cesar Azpilicueta are both on their way, while another on their way to the exit door is Reinildo Mandava.

In recent months, Reinildo has lost his starting place as left back to Javi Galan. As such, he is no longer counted on by head coach Diego Simeone, which is why Atleti do not see it as important to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the current season.

Relevo says it is increasingly likely that Reinildo will leave Atleti as a free agent, with the club having no plans to offer him a new contract. This is good news for Barcelona as they are reportedly interested in the Mozambique international as a back-up option for Alejandro Balde.

Reinildo has been a valuable servant for Atletico Madrid, although the ACL injury he suffered in 2023 has held him back. Barring any major developments, he will play his last few months at the Metropolitano.
