Barcelona is planning a largely quiet summer in terms of additions, with two or with a maximum of three expected arrivals. More activity can go the other way, with the Blaugrana who would like extra income and a number of players in difficult contract situations. That includes Pablo Torre.
Director of Football Deco has made it his job to ensure that none of the Barcelona players will start in the last year of their deal next season, with the implication that they will be expanded or sold. Although not as striking as the cases of Frenkie de Jong and Andreas Christensen, Torre is in that situation.
This season, the 22-year-old has been starving with opportunities under Hansi Flick, even though he appeared when he had the chance to show his value. No player has a better target contribution per 90 minute ratio, with four goals and three assists in just 421 minutes, on average on one hour. MD says that his priority is to stay in the club and convince Flick of his value in the preseason.
However, the Blaugrana will open the starting door to Torre this summer, after having spent two seasons on loan in Girona for a year ago. The same exhaust valve explains that they feel that his situation is difficult this season, and will either extend his deal with a further season and lend him or sell him. If they do the latter, it would include a return clause – they feel that he has sufficient talent and want to keep control of his future.
Torre was linked to Valencia and Real Betis in the summer last year, and the Catalan daily say that RCD Mallorca has shown interest in him in recent weeks. Hometown Club Racing Santander, where Barcelona signed him, also fight for promotion to La Liga, and if they do, they also become an option. In January Porto also made a play for him.
