Barcelona opt against free transfer target as Serie A giants close in

Barcelona is expected to be on the market for a new attacker in the summer transfer market as part of the Hansi Flick expansion plans.

La Blaugrana still works within a tight financial budget with the club's hierarchy determined to work on the limitations of a transfer policy of 1: 1.

This requires that Barcelona only signs new players on the basis of profit generated by income that arrives at the club in the coming months, mainly from the sale of players.

With that in mind, Barcelona is looking for bargains and Canada International Jonathan David considered a perfect candidate.

David has confirmed that he will continue from Lille when his contract ends in June with the 25-year-old striker who confirms his desire to play in La Liga.

Barcelona has been the only realistic Spanish option for David, and despite representing a cost -effective option, the Catalans are cold for him.

According to the latest reports from Mundo Deportivo, David's 2024/25 record of 23 goals and 10 assists in 43 games this season attracted the attention of multiple Premier League clubs, but Inter Milan are the new favorites.

The current Serie A leaders are preparing a bumper offer for David, despite the strong form of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, with an offer for five seasons plus a salary of € 10 million and a considerable signing bonus.

Some Barcelona fans will question the decision not to follow David as an option to offer Robert Lewandowski cover for the next 12 months.

His figures in Lille are impressive with the former Gent Forward Post consistently scored high figures with more than 20 goals scored in the last three seasons.

The last two campaigns ended with 26 scored in both, and he is on track to beat that count in the last weeks of 2024/25, with Lille Vecht for a UEFA Champions League qualifying qualifying place for next season.
