Barcelona may have been told to stop their planning for the coming summer transfer window, something that would prevent them from going for an attacker this year. However, it is a task that director of Football Deco cannot postpone more than one year.
That's because it is likely that Robert Lewandowski will no longer be there in the 2026-27 season. The Polish veteran would like to go back to criticism of his age in the past seasons, and has certainly done this with goals this year, even though his totals for the past two years.
Although it is not publicly confirmed, Barcelona is said to have already agreed a deal for Lewandowski to extend his contract for next year. The former Bayern Munich -attacker had a clause in his contract that dictated if he played at least 45 minutes in half of their games this season, he would automatically be expanded. Lewandowski and Barcelona, however, had come to an agreement instead.
There had been a conversation that would be included for a second year in the deal, something with which they could possibly distribute the salary limit from his wages. Anyway, Sport says it is unlikely that he will be there to fulfill it. Wojciech Szczesny is another that almost matches contract renewal, and his friendship with Lewandowski is an important reason for his decision to stay. However, the Catalan says every day that it is 'very likely' that both will finish their time in Barcelona at the end of the 2026 season.
For the Blaugrana, the great care is whether they have the money or salary limit room to pursue a replacement. Ferran Torres scores this season at an amazing speed, but there is no escape from the fact that Lewandowski is still the top scorer in Spain, and Torres cannot take over all minutes from the Polish striker. Moreover, both are different profiles, and the exit of Lewandowski would leave them in their team without a classic number nine.
