Hansi Flick hinted at his side for the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic with the minutes he handed out in the Copa del Rey match against Barbastro, where the likes of Gavi, Cubarsí, Raphinha and Casadó were rested, as well as Lamine Yamal. Now they are all ready to start.
In goal, the question is whether Flick will go back to Iñaki Peña or give Szczesny a point in this competition, as he did in the Copa del Rey.
Defensively, Koundé is untouchable, just like Iñigo Martínez, while Balde was rested against Barbastro. They are the three regular players in a four-man defense that has found a fourth member between Araújo – team captain and in negotiations with Juventus – and Cubarsí, who has performed well so far alongside Martínez.
In midfield the comparison seems clear. Casadó was rested for the Copa del Rey match, Pedri is simply fundamental and Gavi, who showed solidity against Atlético, would be the player to take Olmo's place.
In attack, Flick has Lewandowski who scored again against Barbastro and Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, who also did not travel to the Copa del Rey and are well rested.
