Barcelona is expected to make Jonathan Tah their first signing of the summer transfer window, with the Bayer Leverkusen on a move to Catalonia. The German international is without a contract at the end of the season and he has already decided that he wants to make Spain his next destination.
Tah would arrive as a free agent, and although it would be a very good deal for Barcelona, they would have an overcrowding in the center of defense. Hansi Flick already has Pau Cubarsi, Ronald Araujo, Inigo Martinez, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia as options for this season, so his colleague German would make seven players from which he can only choose two positions.
As such, the expected arrival of Tah Barcelona would like to see to sell at least one of their existing center-back options and according to Relevante it is Christensen that is the favorite to continue.
Christensen has had a miserable season so far, with injuries that limit him to just 26 minutes of action – and they came in the opening match against Valencia in August. In the meantime, Martinez and Eric jumped him in the pecking order, and he is no longer necessary in Barcelona.
It was recently reported that Christensen is open to leaving Barcelona, and since his contract ends at the end of next season, it makes sense that a departure in the summer was agreed. The former Chelsea defender has been associated with a Premier League referee in recent months, where Brentford is the newest club that has shown interest.
Christensen has proved to be a very good signing for Barcelona, given that he signed a free back in the summer of 2022. from next season.
