Barcelona put deal for 26-year-old on hold due to financial woes

Barcelona has been busy this summer, and although two signing sessions have been done in Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford, the critical activities protects outputs for players that are no longer calculated. One of them is Inaki Pena, although his expected departure has been put on hold for the time being.

The arrival of Joan Garcia, in combination with Marc-Andre ter Stegen's insistence to stay in the club, means that Pena has no future in Barcelona. And with his contract that expires in 2026, the idea is that he will be sold this summer, which means that the Catalans can cash in somewhat needed in view of their financial misery.

Barcelona wants to sell Pena, but for now they can be not there, he is admitted to Hansi Flick's team for the pre-season tour through Japan and South Korea. According to MD, the 26-year-old is the only fit goalkeeper who has registered the Catalans with La Liga, given that Ter Stegen is about to undergo an operation.

Barcelona has not yet registered a new signature Garcia or Wojciech Szczesny, whose registration ended when his contract ended on June 30 – he then wrote a new deal a few weeks later. And if it stays that way until the first game of the new season, they could not pay, which means that Pena should start.

Barcelona, however, is sure that at least one of Garcia or Szczesny is registered on time for the MD1 library against Mallorca, which will be in three weeks. And as soon as they are registered with La Liga, the green light is given for Pena to leave, which should happen with few problems, since he also wants to leave this summer to become a starting goalkeeper elsewhere.
