Barcelona receive significantly less than expected €24m from Nico-Manchester City deal

Barcelona was not active during the last day of the winter transfer window, but they still managed to secure much -needed funds. These came with thanks to Manchester City, who signed Nico Gonzalez from FC Porto in a deal worth € 60 million.

Nico, who had difficulty in having a significant impact in Barcelona before he was sold to Porto in the summer of 2023, was introduced by Pep Guardiola to act as the “replacement” for fellow countryman Rodri Hernandez, who is currently recovering from An ACL injury – he was initially thought that it was over for the rest of the season, but he was able to return earlier than expected.

Barcelona received € 8.5 million from Nico's first sale, while he also pulled out a 40% clause. As such, it was expected that they would bring in € 24 million from the deal between Porto and Man City, but that is actually not the case.

Sport has been detailed on the operation of the Monday deal. Before Man City completed the signing of the 23-year-old midfielder, Porto activated a clause in which they acquired an addition 20% of the Rights of the Player for only € 3 million.

As a result, Barcelona only retained a 20%clause, and not just that, it was for capital gain of a future sale, instead of the rights of Nico. Ultimately, the Catalan giants received € 10.3 million from the sale itself, which means a total income of € 13.3 million – far away from the € 24 million that many expected the club to receive.

Added to the initial transfer costs of € 8.5 million, received € 21.8 million from Nico's departure, which is a very handy amount in view of the well -documented financial misery of the club. However, there is bound to a feeling of what could have been, given that the Spaniard goes for € 60 million.

Nevertheless, this money will be useful for Barcelona that goes into the summer, which should be busy, since it has been their first transfer window at the end of the season since they returned to the 1: 1-rule of La Liga.
