Barcelona release confirmation of Dani Olmo – worst-case scenario for recovery

Barcelona has confirmed an injury to Dani Olmo, after the Spain International had levied against Osasuna in the first half. The 26-year-old has a hamstring injury, which he sustained after converting a penalty in their 3-0 win over Los Rojillo.

Olmo suffered considerably this season under injuries and missed ten games in La Liga due to fitness issues and this season only participated in about a third of their minutes in the competition. The Catalan midfielder played for Spain on Sunday evening and will now be absent for important collisions in the Copa del Rey. Originally the reported diagnosis was two to three weeks, and there was some hope that he could be back in time for the first stage of their Champions League collision with Borussia Dortmund in Montjuic on ninth April.

The Blaugrana, however, states that he will be out for three weeks, which would not only come to him from the first stage, but also the return to Germany. He is currently on his way to Miss: Girona (H), Atletico Madrid (A), Real Betis (H), Dortmund (H), Leganes (A) and Dortmund (A). If that recovery plan is followed, he would be available for a collision with Celta Vigo at home on April 19.

It is the only position in which Barcelona is most blessed with depth, with Raphinha, Pedri, Fermin Lopez, Gavi and Pablo Torre all able to play behind Robert Lewandowski, although it seems most likely that Gavi will be used for Pedri and Frenkie de Jong. The Rob Hansi -Flick from depth, however, and none of those alternatives has shown the fleet of foot nor the vision that Olmo entails. Undoubtedly, Torre is closest in terms of profile, albeit the lowest in the pecking order so far.
