Barcelona risk Champions League punishment after breaching UEFA’s FFP rules

Barcelona had a productive campaign in the Champions League 2024-25 and reached the semi-final before he was defeated over two legs by Inter. But a similar run in next season's competition can be more difficult to achieve after recent developments with regard to the well -documented financial misery of the club.

It is no secret that Barcelona is struggling financially, and so far their efforts to improve the situation have not been sufficient. They only succeeded in registering Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of last season due to registration problems that emerged from their money problems, and they are also about to be affected in the Champions League.

As reported by the Times (via Marca), Barcelona has violated the rules for financial fair play of UEFA for the second consecutive year. The club was instructed to pay € 500K for their first violation in 2024, but the latter will bring a strict punishment, which previously influences the sporting side of things.

UEFA is expected to release details on the issue in the coming weeks, but according to the report, Premier League clubs Chelsea and Aston Villa also contrary to the European football administrative body, but given that it is only a first violation for both clubs, their punishment will not be so serious of Barcelona's.

Although it is not yet familiar with which punishment Barcelona may have to do, it is reported that they could have a reduced team for the Champions League of next season – which means that Hansi Flick could not count on 25 players, but rather a lower number. Another possibility is a point deduction that the Catalans could see the competition phase with a negative count.
