Barcelona set deadline for Marc-Andre ter Stegen return this season

One of the few major debates in Can Barca this season was the goalkeeper position, with Wojciech Szczesny entered after an injury to Marc-Andre ter Stegen. It has taken over enough time and questions during the Hansi Flick press conference, and he could still make a decision to make before the end of the season.

After the Ter Stegen was excluded in September for seven to ten months, and with the possibility that he missed the rest of the season, it was decided that the Blaugrana should yield another alternative to Inaki Pena. Veteran Szczesny was persuaded to get out of retirement with a one -year -old deal, but to the surprise of many, the number one place of Pena did not take.

But in January the Polish goalkeeper became number one, even though Pena made no mistakes, and the 34-year-old made several in his first pair of starts. Szczesny, however, is now consolidated as number one, but the fitness of Ter Stegen offers a different area of uncertainty.

The German goalkeeper said he “worked on it” when he was asked if he could return this season. The 32-year-old is pleased with the progress he makes, after he has returned to the grass outside. According to MD, however, there is still no clear return date for the club captain, and it will not be until the end of March when they make a decision for the rest of the season.

As soon as they have a month of training sessions and analyzes to finish, Barcelona will decide whether Ter Stegen will return this year or wait until next season. It certainly looks like a difficult call for Flick to make anyway, with Szczesny performing well now – Barcelona has not lost a game with him in goal.
