Despite the majority believing Barcelona would bring in Wojciech Szczesny as starting goalkeeper after injury, Marc-Andre ter Stegen. However, the former Poland international is yet to make his debut.
That could well change. According to Sport, there is a good chance that Szczesny will be in goal for Barcelona's Copa del Rey trip to Barbastro on January 4. The Blaugrana are pleased with his contributions so far this season, and the Copa clash will finally provide some form of reward – there is a chance he will also see game time in the Spanish Super Cup, although that will usually be for the starting goalkeeper.
Inaki Pena has surprised many by retaining his position as number one in Ter Stegen's absence, but has the full support of Hansi Flick. Word from Catalonia is that Szczesny will retire next summer, while Pena could be in line for a contract extension.
