Barcelona has made it a habit to pursue some of the best free agents on the market in recent years, because their financial situation demanded his toll, such as Eric Garcia, Ilkay Gundogan and Andreas Christensen all arrive at a free of the Premier League. In recent months it seemed that Jonathan Tah van Bayer Leverkusen would be the newest free agent who signed for the Blaugrana, but that is now in doubt.

Tah has decided to renew his deal with Leverkusen, and after a failed attempt to sign him last summer, Bayern Munich is now leaving the German international race. Real Madrid was linked to him, but Barcelona became front runners and, according to several reports, has agreed conditions about a deal with Tah.

Whether they will have the green light or not, is less clear. As reported by the sport, the renewal of Ronald Araujo in January, the committing of his future to the club until 2031 changed the paradigm, and now the arrival of Tah is uncertain. Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi will remain next season, with Eric Garcia doing strong performance, it is unlikely that the departure of Christensen is sufficient for Barcelona to consider his signature necessary.

The Catalan explains daily that Barcelona will talk to Tah Imminent to give him an update about their position, after weeks without contact, but they describe the situation as cold. Tah was willing to postpone his decision to see if Barcelona could accelerate his signature, but because of both their center back situation and their salary limit, it is unlikely that they will give the green light before summer. That is why Tah is now starting to look at other offers he has.

It seems that the future of Araujo will also be final for the path of Tah: if the Uruguayan remains, it seems unlikely that Tah will sign. If he decides to entertain clubs who are willing to pay his release clause of € 65 million, then Barcelona will probably be looking for a long-term partner for Cubarsi, with Martinez now 33 years old.
