Barcelona has reached the final of the 2024-25 Copa del Rey after a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Metropolitano provided a 5-4 total victory in their semi-final.
The first stage at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Company Five weeks ago was an exciting match in which eight goals were shared between the two teams, but this second stage was much more Cagey. It was perhaps not after referee José Luis Munuera Montero was called by VAR to check a possible red card challenge by Cesar Azpilicueta in the first five minutes, but he stayed with his original Yellow Card decision.
Barcelona enjoyed the better opening phase, and just before half an hour they marked the breakthrough in the Metropolitano, where they won a few weeks ago in La Liga. It was wonderful work by Lamine Yamal to slide through the ball to Ferran Torres, who appeared for the Athleti goalkeeper Juan Musso to put in the back of the net.
Barcelona gave that goal the opportunity to control the procedure because they were in charge of defending. And they managed to do this in the second half, although there were some fears. Atleti made a triple change during the break to record Javi Galan, Clement Lenglet and Alexander Sorloth, and the last one, who also seems to score against the Catalans, had the ball at the back of the net, but it was excluded from offside.
Barcelona is confronted with Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey-final, after the Carlo Ancelotti side won their semi-final against Real Sociedad on Tuesday, also by a 5-4 total score. It will be the second superclasico of the season, after the January 5-1 victory for the Catalan team in the Spanish Super Cup.
