Barcelona sporting director Deco is already working on things for next summer, with none expected in January. He will do this again without any certainty about the available finances.
According to Sport, the focus of his scouting work is currently on the full-back positions. The Blaugrana feel they can improve Gerard Martin and Hector Fort as alternatives to Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde.
Last summer, Barcelona tried to strengthen the right-back position, with a late bid for Marc Pubill, which was confirmed by the Almeria defender himself. He will once again be on Deco's shortlist for the position, as will AS Monaco's Vanderson, who has long been linked to Barcelona, and Ajax's Devyne Rensch, a more recent addition to their scouting pool.
Barcelona released Julian Araujo, who moved to Bournemouth after being assessed by Hansi Flick in pre-season, and were widely expected to bring back Joao Cancelo on loan from Manchester City. Both club and player expressed their desire to extend the move, but Barcelona were unable or unwilling to raise the money City demanded to sign him.
