Barcelona sporting director Deco has assured star signing Dani Olmo will be available for the second half of the season despite doubts over his registration. He was also not particularly satisfied with the way the questions were asked.
The past few weeks in Can Barca have been dominated by doubts about where Barcelona will find the money to sign the 26-year-old playmaker. They originally fell back on the emergency injury rule, taking advantage of the extra salary space provided by Andreas Christensen's Achilles tendon problem. With the Danish defender recovering, Barcelona will have to register Olmo without that fee, and if they don't do so before December 31, he won't be able to play after December 31.
Ahead of Barcelona's clash with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, Deco was fierce on the issue and unwilling to ask repeated questions.
“We will undoubtedly register him. The club is working on it and we will arrange everything. Don't worry about it.”
“It's an internal matter… Don't worry, we'll sort it out,” Deco repeated, and then was asked about Olmo himself.
“The player is calm, don't worry,” he said, now noticeably irritated. After another question about Olmo, Deco decided that was the end of the topic.
“We came here to talk about football. About better things. About the game.” The interview with Movistar+ ended with a question about January's affairs in the transfer market.
“We will not talk about that at this time,” Deco condemned in an awkward exchange.
Olmo has reportedly included a clause in his deal that will allow him to leave for free in January if he does not sign on time. It is thought that the Blaugrana are looking for additional sources of income to increase their salary cap and allow them to do so.
