Barcelona star left out of matchday squad to face Mallorca ahead of imminent departure

Head coach Hansi Flick van Barcelona has appointed his matchday team for the La Liga opener on Saturday against Mallorca, and there are several players missing. Summer signs Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford will make the trip to son Moix, but they will not be accompanied by a number of their teammates.

A number of Barca Atletic-registered players in Jofre Torrents, Guillermo Fernandez, Dro and Toni Fernandez are mentioned in Flick's Squad, but there is no room for Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martin and Roony Bardghji. The trio, who have all signed contracts in the past six months, is not yet registered with La Liga, which means that they are not eligible for against Mallorca.

And they are not the only first team players to be omitted, where Hector Fort is also missing in the Barcelona team that will travel to Son Moix.

Earlier in the week it was reported that Fort Barcelona would leave this summer, as repeated by Fabrizio Romano. The young defender expected to decide his next step before the MD2 clashed against Levante next weekend. Aston Villa is in the race to sign him, although it is more likely that he joins a La Liga Club.

Mallorca is very enthusiastic about adding Fort to the Jagoba Arrasate team for the 2025-26 campaign, given that Pablo Maffeo is expected to leave before the summer transfer window closes. In turn, this would mean that the Barcelona young in La Liga would see enough minutes, which will help his development.

It will be interesting to see where Fort ends up. It makes sense for him to leave Barcelona in search of regular minutes, which he will not get in the Flick team because of the presence of Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia Right-back. Mallorca would be a good move, but other clubs also circling.
