Barcelona -defender Ronald Araujo has had a tough season because of his own recognition, and because of that of manager Hansi Flick, in which he missed injury for the first half of the year. Returning to the Blaugrana side, he was firmly behind Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi in the pecking order.
Unfortunately for him, despite strong contributions against Real Madrid, the season of Araujo will be remembered for two errors against Inter in the semi -final of the Champions League, with the first Marcus Thuram and then Francesco Acerbi who defeated him for their last two goals, who made the same and won the draw for the Italians. Doing with Uruguay for international duty, things have not become easier for Arajo.
The Uruguay of Marcelo Bielsa has a heavy shape, with only one win in their last ten games and only five goals at the time. A goal to Paraguay with just over 10 minutes to go, the bad control of Arajo allowed Julio Enciso to jump and Araujo gave the punishment away.
Enciso stepped up to score the penalty and fancy Uruguay at a loss of 2-0.
After the game, Arajo took responsibility for his mistake. Sport was wearing the words of the Vice-captain of Barcelona.
“It's bitter, we wanted the victory. It is clear that we were not playing well, we didn't have a good match and we lost.”
“Maybe I should have played the first time. I tried to play the ball, and they were very high on the field. That is football, and we will have to think about Tuesday,” he noticed on the penalty incident.
“We do not create as much as possible because of the quality of the players we have, and we have admitted at the back, and it is difficult because we are known to defend well.”
At a certain moment it seemed that Arajo was on its way from Barcelona this summer, but it seems that both club and players have turned his situation. Manager Hansi Flick has supported Araujo to bounce back with more continuity next season, and Araujo himself has assured that he will become a Barcelona player.
