Barcelona president Joan Laporta loudly celebrated his 'victory' over the temporary re-registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor at Jeddah's King Abdullah Stadium, but his efforts were reportedly not the only ones involved in the decision.
According to TV3, several Barcelona stars threatened to quit their service in Spain if Olmo was not registered. They claim that Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Pedri, Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez and Marc Casado were all willing to miss international duty in March when Spain played the Netherlands in the Nations League quarter-finals. The players in question are said to have suffered minor injuries to avoid duty in Spain, in solidarity with their teammate.
If Olmo had not remained registered, not only would he not be allowed to play for Barcelona anymore, but he would also not be allowed to play for La Roja. This report has yet to be confirmed by other sources, but it should be noted that the decision to grant Barcelona a temporary injunction was made by the CSD, a government agency, and not by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
