Barcelona suffer blow in hopes to secure €10m transfer windfall in January

Barcelona needs money to make signings this month, and a possible source of income is the sale of Oscar Mingueza, who plays for Celta Vigo. The 25-year-old has attracted a lot of interest from Aston Villa and while it looked likely that a move to the Premier League was on the cards, this is no longer the case.

Aston Villa are close to signing Andres Garcia from Levante, and according to Sport this will end their interest in Mingueza. While this is good news for Celta, whose chances of keeping him until the summer have increased exponentially, it is bad for Barcelona, who have a 50% sell-on clause that they were hoping to activate.

However, not all hope is lost for Barcelona. RB Leipzig are still interested in Mingueza and are willing to pay his €20 million release clause, although the player himself is not keen on a move to the Bundesliga.
