Earlier this week, Barcelona-midfielder Pedri was confirmed as one of the nominees for the Ballon d'Or Award 2025. The 22-year-old had a fantastic season at the Catalan club and helped them to win a domestic Treble-while he also played a role in Spain and reached the UEFA Nations League.
And on the back of this, Pedri has now spoken with France football (via MD), the organizers of the Ballon d'Or. During the interview he revealed that he has the hope of winning the prize after he had seen fellow countryman Rodri Hernandez do last year.
“The balloon d'Or is often won by strikers, but the prize of Rodri shows that the role of midfielders needs to be more appreciated. Why can't I dream of winning it one day? But I am not the one who decides who is the best. There are people who are more qualified to assess, especially those who voices at Individual Awards.
“I worked hard last season and I think I performed at a very good level. On a collective level it also went very well. On a personal level I felt very comfortable and I found the consistency I was looking for last season. The coach put his confidence in me, which is essential to me to give my everything.”
Pedri also spoke about life in Barcelona. He explained why they were so successful last season, and gave insight into the management style of Hansi Flick.
“We have succeeded in rebuilding ourselves. We have formed a new group, we got to know each other better and young talents who can make a difference were created. Today we are a great team. I am convinced that we will reach an incredible level.
“These young players arrived as children in Barcelona and wear the philosophy of the club. Here the style of playing is brought in at a young age and is very similar to that of the first team. This generation mix works very well. And having a coach who completely believes in me, helps me calmly and enjoys my life as a player.
During the interview, Pedri also spoke glowing about Real Madrid -Duo Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham – The latter is regularly compared to the Barcelona midfielder by users of social media.
“Real Madrid has many very good players. When Kylian Mbappe has the ball and is in a one-on-one, it is very difficult to put him. And Jude Bellingham is really incredible. He combines physical strength with technical skills, making him extremely difficult for him.”
