Barcelona supporters platform calls for Laporta’s resignation over Dani Olmo case

The 'Som un clam' platform adds its voice to the criticism of Laporta, with former presidential candidate Víctor Font demanding his resignation.

Opposition groups angry with the way FC Barcelona is governed are using the Dani Olmo case as a means to undermine Joan Laporta's position.

Despite a series of high-profile issues during his second term in charge of the club, the 62-year-old has been able to ride the waves as president, but anger over his management is steadily growing as it appears neither Dani Olmo nor Pau Víctor will return this season can play for the club again as the cub can comply with LaLiga salary cap rules.

Calls on Laporta to resign

Barça supporters platform 'Som un clam', led by Joan Camprubí Montal, has released a statement demanding the resignation of the Barcelona president. They claim the Olmo case is the straw that broke the camel's back after an erratic management period that “failed to change the direction of the club.”

Yesterday it was former Barça presidential candidate Víctor Font who demanded that Joan Laporta make a public explanation and do so before Hansi Flick's press conference ahead of Saturday's Copa del Rey match against Barbastro.

A clam statement

“From Som un Clam we would like to express our total outrage caused by the management of President Joan Laporta and the board of directors over the registration situation with Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, and we demand their resignation.

What we have witnessed in the last hours of 2024 shows that the vicious circle regarding the club's ability to manage the situation has gone wrong. Amateurish and erratic management could now start to affect the sporting performance of the first team, which could be deprived of two key players.

In just four years, FC Barcelona's assets have been decapitalized using various 'levers', selling strategic assets for the future to plug holes resulting from chaotic and improvised management.

Despite promises of recovery, the club still lacks a solid financial plan or a coherent strategy to ensure medium- and long-term stability. All this while we watch with concern and amazement as intermediaries with commissions of millions of dollars are introduced in operations such as the renewal of the sponsorship contract with Nike or the sponsorship agreement with Spotify.

We, the members, cannot allow Barça to deteriorate in this way. We demand an end to the broken promises, constant improvisation and irresponsible selling of assets that undermine the model of collective ownership that makes us unique.

A change of course is urgently needed. We must restore the transparency, planning and values that made Barça more than just a club. Barça's future depends on us, its members, and we will not stand idly by while the institution declines.

That is why we demand the resignation of the President and the Board of Directors, while calling on Barcelona fans to mobilize, reverse this situation and make their voices heard.

At 'Som un Clam' we would also like to show our solidarity with the players involved and express our support for Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor in these difficult times. We need their talent and dedication to face the sporting challenges that await the first team with stability.”
