Barcelona has booked their place in the semi-final of the Champions League after a 5-3 total victory over Borussia Dortmund, who won 3-1 in the quarterfinals second stage in Signal Iduma Park.
The hosts needed a strong start in their attempt to destroy the first leg deficit, and they got it with the opening goal that came within the first 11 minutes. Wojciech Szczesmy polluted Pascal Gross in the penalty area, and that enabled Serhou Guirassy to find the back of the net from 12 meters – what he did with a Panenka effort.
Barcelona was able to avoid the rest of the first half, but only a few minutes in the second period Dortmund brought the aggregated shortage back inside two. And it was Guirassy who found the back of the net again when he went home from close by after a corner.
Dortmund then started to increase the pace, but only a few minutes later they were hit with a fool, when Barcelona got a goal. Fermin Lopez delivered the ball from the right and it was changed in his own net by unfortunate defender Ramy Bensebaini.
That was a big blow to Dortmund, although they managed to get a goal at 75 minutes to release the 5-3. A bad approval from Ronald Araajo came to Guirassy a six meters away, and he made no mistake to complete his hat trick and in the process, he picked up Raphinha to become the top goalscorer of the Champions League.
Fortunately, Barcelona could see the game when Dortmund no longer had steam. It means that Hansi Flick's side in the last four of the Champions League will be, where their opponent Inter Milan or Bayern Munich will play the second stage of their quarterfinals on Wednesday.
