Barcelona has already brought Joan Garcia in and their second “signing” of the summer transfer window will be sealed next week: Wojciech Szczesny.
Szczesny came to Barcelona last season as a replacement for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who sustained a serious knee injury in September. He was unable to break into the starting line-up until January, but he never looked back on claiming his place.
His performances were generally very good, and that is why Barcelona was desperate to agree with him. He gave the green light a few weeks ago and the process will be completed soon.
Szczesny is officially out of the contract, with his previous deal going on Monday. But he will register next week, with sport that reports that everything will be completed before Barcelona will start their training program for the season next Sunday. He is expected to stay for two years and hold him in Catalonia until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
Szczesny started his time in Barcelona as number two on Inaki Pena, and for next season he will be in this role again. The idea is that Garcia, who came to Espanyol last month, are the new starter of the club, and the Polish veteran will leave his -study his-die Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the cold because he will not be calculated by Hansi Flick.
Barcelona is hopeful that Ter Stegen will choose to leave this summer, because this makes it considerably easier for Garcia and other new signing sessions. Just like Szczesny, he will tell the club with the club next week, and it is at the moment that he will be informed that he will be third in the goalkeeper pecking order, which could cause a wish for him to find a new club.
