Barcelona will approve the sale of even more of their assets to sign Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the season. After a court decision rejected their request to let them play in the second half of the season, Barcelona must increase their salary cap by €60 million to register them.
The Blaugrana will submit a new motion against La Liga to allow Olmo and Victor to remain registered beyond the injury compensation awarded in August. However, Sport says that the court ruling means the sale of the rights to commercialize their VIP boxes at Camp Nou.
Initially, the amount for the rights to market their boxes for the next twenty years was estimated at 200 million euros, but the actual amount will ultimately be closer to 120 million euros. It is clear that it also deprives Barcelona of a source of income during that period. They have until the end of December 31 to resolve the matter, and if they don't, Olmo has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for free.
For much of the year, president Joan Laporta had explained that their new sponsorship deal with Nike would solve their salary cap problems, but once again Barcelona were faced with a loss of income due to the board's financial miscalculations. For the past two seasons, Laporta has claimed that their salary cap problems would be a thing of the past, but Barcelona have now sold 25% of their TV rights for a 25-year period, 49.5% of Barca Vision, and signed a sponsorship deal up to 25 years. 2038, and it looks like we'll be doing more business.
