Barcelona and Frenkie de Jong seem to go together for a few years, against expectations in the past seasons. The Dutchman has underlined for a long time as a potential victim of the salary limit struggle in Barcelona, but in the last four months his situation has taken a U-turn.
Despite reports that De Jong would be sold in the summer, amid a stalemate about a new contract, the Dutchman has now expressed his wish to stay in the club. Hansi Flick's insist on the use of De Jong, and getting the best football from him that he played in Barcelona, the Catalan giants, however, has their attitude on him. De Jong reportedly told his agent Ali Dursun that he does not want to listen to other offers and wants a new deal with the Blaugrana.
Now sport is referring to a report from the current Barca that says that Dursun will meet the club instead to discuss conditions. But perhaps intriguing is the fact that Barcelona is willing to retain his salary in their new deal. They say that the Blaugrana agrees with a salary of € 19 million, which he currently earns, if that figure includes bonuses and performance -related objectives.
That should certainly make negotiations easier, although Barcelona will have to consider what they can fit into their salary limit this summer after the recent announcement of La Liga. De Jong is one of Barcelona's top two earners alongside Robert Lewandowski, something that fans has irritated over the years, because his contribution may not have realized that so far.
Only six months ago, De Jong was whoring by his own fans against Brest in the Champions League, although the attitude towards him has changed. As it looks now, De Jong seems to be driving in the midfield of Barcelona in the coming years.
