Much of the discourse in the past few months in Barcelona has been in the forward position with a view to the summer transfer market, especially when and how they have to replace Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker will stay at least another season in Barcelona, but the newest reports are that they may try to hang him on for a different season.
Lewandowski becomes 37 at the start of the following season, although his figures who defy statistics. He currently leads the Pichichi race in La Liga and has returned dramatically to form Hansi Flick. This season he has 31 goals and three assists in his 33 performances, some of the best contributions in Europe.
However, his age is something to consider for Barcelona, who are still in a tight financial place with regard to their salary limit. Lewandowski had a clause in his contract that meant that he would have earned an extension for next year if he could be seen for 45 minutes in half of their matches, a song that he would soon touch. Barcelona has decided to anticipate that automatic expansion and will offer him a new deal.
The surprise is, according to a report from Sport, Barcelona will offer Lewandowski an extension of two years instead of an extra year. They say it would be a reward for its form and continuous professionalism, but would also help to detect the salary he owes. An agreement is expected to be reached and the Polish striker would see much of his salary paid in bonuses and objectives.
The Blaugrana are connected to Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Luis Diaz from Liverpool, but it seems likely that they have to make a sale to erase space in their salary limit for one of those movements.
