Barcelona has regularly looked at the free agent market in recent years because of their financial problems, and they can do so again in 2025. They are expected to take out a deal for Bayer Leverkusen -defender Jonathan Tah, and his namesake Jonathan David is another that is linked with a move to Catalonia.
David will leave Lille at the end of the season at the expiry of his contract. So much has already been established, but it is far from sure where he ends up in the summer, with links to many clubs throughout Europe that have been revealed in recent months.
Barcelona is one of the clubs that follow David, but according to the sport there are no plans for a contract offer – this is despite the fact that the Canadian striker has made a financial effort to get a switch to the Catalan side.
David, who scored this season against both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, has been evaluated by Barcelona for more than a year, but despite this, his possible signing never generated consensus within Canca. Club bosses believe that he is not needed, given that Flick Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres already have pointed options, while Pau Victor and Dani Olmo can also work there when needed.
Barcelona Sporting Director Deco gives priority to a movement for a new left wing player, where Luis Diaz from Liverpool is his favorite target – and a deal has a good chance to happen in the summer. He does not want to remove funds from this aim to place a new striker if one is not considered necessary.
At this stage a switch to the Premier League sees most likely for David. West Ham United is said to have submitted an “important” contract proposal, while Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked to Arsenal and Manchester United in recent weeks.
