Barcelona VP promises Camp Nou return – ‘We must value that it is being built’

Barcelona Institutional Vice-President Elena Fort was the first person at the club to speak publicly in 2025, following Hansi Flick's pre- and post-match press conferences. She not only talked about Dani Olmo's registration drama, but promised a return to Camp Nou soon.

The club had initially set a date at the end of November for the club to return to the renovated Camp Nou with a capacity of approximately 60,000 people. However, the dates have been postponed three times and there is still no certainty about when they will be back home. However, she promised RAC1 that they would be back this season, and not in September as some reports suggest.

“There is still no date for the return to Camp Nou. But it will be this season. The club has been very transparent about the evolution of the works, when what was said was said because that was what was thought at the time. The initial predictions, which were very tight, have changed. We've had construction issues, defects discovered… every little unpredictable event has pushed the set date back further. We must attach value to the fact that the stadium is being built. It is a dream that will soon become reality.”

It was previously reported that Barcelona would have to pay a fine of €1 million per day from construction group Limak for every day after the agreed return date. However, this has been questioned and Fort has distanced itself from the idea of claiming that money, despite their tight finances.

“All contracts have obligations and guarantees. There is a fine and at the end of the work the penalties for the situations are analyzed, which were not always related to the construction company.”

Barcelona are facing a problem with their continued stay in Montjuic. Not only will they miss out on vital revenue on matchdays, the club may consider playing Champions League matches in Madrid or Valencia if they make it to the final stages. The Blaugrana have only rented the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys until the end of April, and on some of the Champions League dates, concerts are already being organized there by the Barcelona City Council.
