Barcelona were offered chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain star prior to Nico Williams snub

Left wing is a position that Barcelona is trying to tackle in the summer, after he did not do this during the Summer Ransfierster 2024. Nico Williams was the most important target for the Catalans, but in the end he refused a movement to stay at Athletic Club for at least one season.

Barcelona will again try to sign a left wing player, although Williams is not expected to be on their list this time – instead, Luis Diaz van Liverpool is the preferred candidate of Sporting Director Deco, who will be determined to get a signature across the line.

However, Deco could have done the job last summer, even without Williams being a consideration. That is because Barcelona was offered the opportunity to sign Desire Doue when he was still in Stade Rennais, as Sport revealed.

Barcelona would have seriously considered signing Doue last summer, with Deco had good reports about the player. The 19-year-old was supposed to have a “barca profile”, making him as a left-base player who is unbalanced at both ends, very offensive, explosive and spectacular.

Doue was offered to Barcelona around the same time when their aim to Williams reached its peak, but in the end a deal was considered impossible for financial reasons, and in the end the teenager would leave Rennes to get to colleague Ligue 1-side Paris Saint-Germain, where he was no ordinary starter for head coach Luis Enrique.

If Doue had remained in Rennes until this summer, Barcelona could have had the chance to sign him, with their financial situation apparently something better now compared to 2024. However, it is not to be, and they could even against him in the final of this season against the Champions League finale by the end of May, when they get there and PSG.
