Barcelona will not enforce fine that could earn them €1m per day

Barcelona celebrated their 125th anniversary last Friday, an occasion that would be celebrated the following day with their return to the renovated Camp Nou for their match against Las Palmas. However, it now looks like February will be the earliest possible, although some estimates say the harvest won't be ready for use until the end of the season.

The Blaugrana had in theory taken delays into account, and their contract with Turkish construction company Limak included a clause stating that if the stadium was not ready for partial use by November 29, the Catalan side would have to pay a sum of 1 million euros pay. every day after that end date.

Sport says it will not enforce that fine for various reasons, in an article that has since been removed. The first reason is that if Barcelona were to go to court, they would have to take into account delays they faced with the building permit. Secondly, they are happy with the work Limak is carrying out, while they also did not want to deteriorate the relationship with the construction company as they felt that this would not help the completion of the stadium.

Given Barcelona's financial situation, it will certainly raise eyebrows that the seemingly easy source of income is not being abused. They may feel that they are on shaky legal ground. Barcelona are banking on their return to Camp Nou for a major financial boost, given the increased capacity and lower running costs.
