The LaLiga giants are on the verge of signing a world record sponsorship deal, but one final seal of approval is still needed.
Barcelona are on the verge of signing a massive sponsorship deal with Nike, extending one of football's most iconic brand partnerships.
Since 1998, Barcelona's famous red and blue jerseys have been adorned with the Nike swoosh, a motto that covers the most successful period in the club's history. Now the club is on the verge of signing a fourteen-year extension, but there is one more hurdle to overcome.
The massive $1.8 billion deal must be approved by the club's members before it can be officially ratified. As a member-owned institution, a vote at an Extraordinary General Meeting is required to conclude the agreement. An EGA is scheduled for Saturday, December 21 at 11 a.m. to approve the deal.
There are no expected obstacles to the deal at this stage and it will give the club a much-needed financial boost. Barcelona are currently embroiled in a legal battle with LaLiga to extend the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor beyond December 31. As they have consistently done in recent years, Barcelona are in financial trouble.
How much is Barcelona's Nike deal worth?
Barcelona's current Nike deal is valued at $112 million per year and is set to expire in June 2028. Barça had reportedly considered switching manufacturers or even creating their own kit, but were tempted by an improved Nike offering.
The enhanced 14-year deal would run until 2038 and is worth significantly more to the club. There is a $169 million signing bonus, paid over the life of the deal, and enhanced annual payments.
SportsPro reports that Barcelona will earn $132 million a year from Nike, surpassing all other manufacturing deals in football. That figure exceeds the $105 million that Manchester United receives from Adidas and even exceeds the $120 million that Adidas pays to Real Madrid.
