Bayern 4-3 Holstein Kiel: Skrzybski’s brace turns thrashing into 7-goal thriller

FC Bayern beat Holstein Kiel on Saturday with 4-3 to consolidate their lead in the Bundesliga table and to expand Theri Winning Run as Musiala, Kane and Gnobry score.

FC Bayern beat Holstein Kiel 4-3 on Saturday to consolidate their lead in the Bundesliga table. Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane ran in the first half, with Kane completed his brace after the restart. Serge Gnabry made it four before Pinn Forath received one for the visitors. It seemed as if the game was over in the final phase until Steven Skrzybski scored twice in added time before Kiel scored, but Bayern saw things to close three points.

Bayern stood in line with Manuel Neuer in Doel and Konrad Laimer, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim and Raphaël Guerreiro in a rear four. Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović anchored a midfield with Michael Olise, Musiala and Kingsley Coman, with Kane at the front for his 50th Bundesliga -appearance. Gnabry took over from Olise during the break, with João Palhinha, Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller and Adam Aznou who stood up for Pavlović, Coman, Kane and Guerreiro in the second half.

Bayern dominated the possession everywhere, but the visitors had the better chances in the beginning. Lasse Rosenboom shot wide before Phil Harres just just abused when Munich had no advanced edge. An Olise Cross avoided Coman, but Bayern took the lead when Olise's cutbacks invited Musiala to swing home.

Kimmich's free kick soon poured off the post before Munich Kim owed when he had called for a Lewis Holtby effort of the line. Olise missed the target on the other side and a deflected Pavlović effort was saved before Laimer had blocked a shot, but Bayern doubled the advantage when Kane arrived at the rest of Coman.

Immediately after the restart, FCB yielded Guerreiro's Cross Finding Kane, who led a header past keeper Timon Weiner. The chances came and went for Musiala, Pavlović and Kane, but Gnobry benefited from a mix-up in the box to make four.

Weiner denied Musiala and Gnabry before Kiel got one when they won the ball in half of Bayern and the shot of Porath found the far corner of the net. Müller just shot over and Upamecano saw a header saved. Weiner denied Sané from a header before the visitors made things interesting in extra time. Timo Becker cut back for Skrzybski to bury along Neuer, who could then only parry against Fiete ARP, with Skrzybski by the hand to mop up the rebound to grab a third for Kiel three minutes after the 90. Musiala saw an effort Out of the row stands at the other end when Bayern claimed a finally deserved victory.

The result means that Bayern is at the top of the table at 51 points of 20 games, nine free from Bayer Leverkusen, who record Hoffenheim on Sunday. The Bavarians will be back in action on Friday when they entertain Werder Bremen.
