Head coach of Bayern Munich, Vincent Kompany, said that his team would not underestimate the Club World Cup opponents Boca Juniors, despite their great start of the tournament.
Bayern made the history of the World Cup club in their opening match and defeated part-time Auckland City with 10-0, led by replacement Jamal Musiala's second half Hattrick in Cincinnati.
It was indeed the biggest victory margin in a competition in the competition (including earlier size) and the second largest victory of Bayern in all competitions this millennium.
Their thrashing confirmed anything but their place in the next round of the tournament and led group C with two points after Boca with Benfica pulled in their opening match.
Boca had led that game with two goals thanks to strikes by Captain Miguel Merentiel and Rodrigo Battaglia, but were fed back for the break by Angel di Maria's punishment.
Nicolas Otamendi sealed part of the loot, with Boca Nicolas Figal rejected in the final phase of the game.
“We know the quality of the tournament … Every part that participates here is a winning team,” Kompany told reporters prior to Friday's game.
“Boca is a very dangerous team in the transition game. They believe in their moments. The team spirit is good.
“We respect Boca. But we look at ourselves and want to bring our qualities to the game.”

Bayern and Boca have met before, with the German side that beat them in the Intercontinental Cup 2001 thanks to the extra time effort of Samuel Kuffour in a 1-0 win.
But in their 2-2 draw with Benfica, Boca became the first South American team that scored several goals against European opposition in a clubworld cup match (including the previous format), because they did this against AC Milan in the 2007 final.
They also scored both goals against Benfica in the first half, the first time they scored twice in the first half of a Club World Cup or Intercontinental Cup match since the 2000 final, when the Brace of Martin Palermo won a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid.
Kompany said they were familiar with the Argentinian playing style with many of the players in the country driving their trade in Europe.
But Bayern will also have to deal with the impressive traveling support of the team, something that Kompany acknowledged that could be crucial in the context of the meeting.
“We know many Argentinian players from the European competitions. It is a football that we understand very well,” he added.
“It can feel a bit like an away game. But we want to be Bayern Munich. We have to show the right emotion.”
Kompany expressed his joy about the welcome of both Dayot Upamecano and Musiala in the fold after their respective injury problems during the 2024-25 campaign.
Indeed, Musiala's Treble from the bank against Auckland came in just 17 minutes and was the first Bayern replacement to score a hat trick in all competitions since Robert Lewandowski (five goals) against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga in September 2015.
“Jamal Musiala and Dayot Upamecano have not played long. We are very happy that they are back and fit,” Kompany added.
“Integration is an important problem and we have to look at it. Otherwise everyone is 100% fit.”
