Bayern goalkeeper Neuer steps up recovery from injury

The goalkeeper of Bayern Munich Manuel Neuer has performed his recovery of injury by completing a running session.

The 39-year-old can no longer be seen for Bayern since March 5, when he played in the 3-0 Champions League victory on Bayer Leverkusen.

He suffered a calf stem in that game and then suffered a setback in his recovery when he worsened the issue on a return to training.

Bayern, however, confirmed on Monday that the experienced campaigner had completed a light session over the grass.

Bayern did not give a timeline about Neuer's return.

The Bundesliga leaders lost 3-2 to VfL Bochum in the first game after Neuer's injury, but then defeated Leverkusen 2-0 in the second stage of their Champions League-equal game before he pulled 1-1 with Union Berlin and watched St. Pauli 3-2.

The replacement of Neuer, Jonas Urbig, has admitted six goals (excluding own goals) in his five performances since he came in the first stage against Leverkusen.

The 21-year-old has made 10 Saves, with a savings percentage of 60, while lagging behind somewhat on the basis of his 5.08 expected goals on the target.

Bayern are six points clearly at the top of the Bundesliga with seven more games left. They will be confronted with Augsburg on Friday.
