Bayern Munich and Chelsea eyeing €70m move for Atletico Madrid sensation

Atletico Madrid has had a strong season so far and they are currently well placed for success in La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Champions League. Diego Simeone has returned to a 4-4-2 system in recent months, and despite the use of a defender and central midfielder, they have been very good.

A significant part of the success in midfield can be attributed to Pablo Barrios, who has established himself as an indispensable player this season. He has moved club captain Koke Resurreccion and he has also not given a pinch to Conor Gallagher, who joined Chelsea last summer in a deal that is worth more than € 40 million.

Barrios has been excellent for Athleti this season, and since he is only 21 years old, he has the potential to keep getting better. Los Colchoneros officials will hope that this will remain the case with the Metropolitano, although there are opportunities to continue.

Barrios, who was at the end of a very strong challenge by Dani Ceballos during the Madrid Derby last weekend, attracts interest from Bayern Munich and Chelsea, according to Bild (Via Ed). According to the report, both clubs are willing to pay € 70 million to land the talented Spanish midfielder.

Atleti will be covered from this interest for the time being, since Barrios has a release clause of € 100 million in his contract – and this is activated is the only way for a sale, because the club is not going to negotiate. They also plan to offer him a new contract at the end of the season, after they recently made the decision to postpone the negotiations.

It is clear that Atletico Madrid has to do everything to maintain the services of Barrios because he can be the new leader of their midfield – so in Koke's footsteps. It will be interesting to see if they can agree a new contract in the coming months, but if not, it will open the door to Bayern and Chelsea.
