Bayern Munich -sports director Max Eberl laughed the last smile to have hit the Bild -Krant for a competition assessment they gave to Harry Kane.
Kane came to Bayern in the summer of 2023 in a £ 100 million deal and scored 44 goals in 45 games in his debut campaign. But Bayern was unable to win in a big trophy.
The criticism on the side has since appeared, even if they are at the top of the Bundesliga table, and with the England captain who continues to find the back of the net and so far scored 31 goals in 34 games.
But his performance against top teams came under the microscope, with a low rating of Bild after Bayern's 4-1 victory over Stuttgart last Friday. Kane played all 90 minutes, but could not score and only had two touches in the Stuttgart box.
That earned him a figure of 5 from Bild, leaving Eberl furiously behind. Prior to the victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16 First -stage on Wednesday, the sports director made his anger clear.
“Harry Kane just wants to win titles. He has already achieved great things in his career, but he has never won a title. You notice that in the dressing room and also in training,” he said.
“Even recently against Stuttgart – where De Bild – newspaper gave him a degree of 5 – he walked 13 kilometers. For a center that is actually utopian. He does it because he sacrifices himself for the team.”
In response, Bild defended their assessment. The newspaper said: “To Stuttgart Kane was not at all convincing in the penalty area and had almost no opportunities to score. That is how a striker is measured.”
Eberl was proven on Wednesday, with Kane playing a key role in the victory over Leverkusen. After just nine minutes he went into the opener of Bayern, before he won a fine of the second half and scored to put the game outside Leverkusen.
His performance Bild saw him a top 'A' figure in their competition reviews. Kane was happy with his display against Leverkusen, but warned that the job was only half done for Bayern.
“It's really a big step in the right direction. We all know that we have struggled against Leverkusen for a while. They are really a good team. But today everyone's focus was completely on it from the first minute and in the 90, “he said.
“Half of the work has been done, but it will be decided next week. We have to approach that with the same mindset as today. In general we had a lot of control. We could even have got a fourth goal at the end.”
