Bayern Munich consider hijacking £50m Chelsea transfer after Florian Wirtz snub

Chelsea wanted to sign Borussia Dortmund -wing player Jamie Gittens on time for this summer's club, but now Bluesbaas Enzo Maresca could have more problems getting his husband

Chelsea could see their move for Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens hijacked by Bayern Munich. Gittens, 20, has already reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea for a seven -year contract, but they have to reach the asking price of £ 50 million £ 50 million yet.

The blues made two bids earlier this month, the second was worth £ 42 million, but both were rejected flat by the German giants. Chelsea had hoped to sign the English winger before the start of the World Cup club, in which both parties participated in the tournament.

Now Bayern, who also participated in the US, has joined the race and has missed no. 1 target Florian Wirtz. The Bundesliga champions want to sign a new winger, with Leroy Sane rejecting a new contract before moving to Galatasaray.

The French newspaper L'Equipe reports that Bayern has already concluded a contract with the representatives of Dortmund and Gittens. The former prospect of Manchester City Academy moved to Germany in 2020 and enjoyed its most productive season to date.

The 12 goals of gittens and three assists helped Dortmund recover from a nightmare first half of the campaign, which led to the dismissal of Nuri Sahin. However, the 20-year-old has been less prominent among the new manager Nico Kovac.

Gittens only played for 13 minutes in the two games of Dortmund at the club World Cup, with, for example, more offers after the end of the tournament. Dortmund -sports director Sebastian Kehl explained when he was asked about the interest of Chelsea: “In the end we did not reach an agreement about Jamie because we have different ideas about the current value of the player.

“But the conversations were very, very respectful. We have been in a very good dialogue with Chelsea for many years. And yet we have a different point of view and we are happy that Jamie will now be part of our team in the club World Cup and are delighted that he will remain.

“I am not responsible for the late offer, but of course I still have to deal with it and that is what we have done. Let's see how things are developing in the future.”

Ex-BVB captain Kehl later said to Fussbal Transfers: “We recently spoke with Jamie. He is mature enough to know that he should perform. That is just who he is. Jamie will be vital to us in this tournament, and we will see what the future then has in petto.”
