Athletic Club wing player Nico Williams was the taste of the summer last year, after scoring in the final of the Euro 2024 final and helping Spain to the title against England. His exciting game led to a long-term and intense chase from Barcelona last summer, but the 22-year-old will probably have more offers this summer.
The Basque wing player decided last summer a move to Barcelona and this year had a quieter season while adapting to his new status. So far, this year he has managed nine goals and seven assists in his 36 performances, but is starting to get in shape in the last part of the year. So much was clear on Thursday evening, when he inspired Athletic to a 3-1 win over Roma, with Los Leones in hot chase of a home final in San Mames in the Europa League.
A final at San Mames was part of the attraction of stay in Bilbao, but there is little certainty that he will be there next season. While it is talking about a switch to Barcelona has recently died, Arsenal and Chelsea have retained their interest in Navarre's exciting talent. Williams has a contract until 2027, with a release clause of € 60 million.
The Gunners have been most connected to Williams in recent months, but Bild (as worn by Diario AS) claims that Bayern Munich are now considering Williams. The price of the move could be their biggest obstacle, after Bayern is committed to a trio of expensive contract innovations in Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies. Although Florian Wirtz remains their top objective for 2026, for which they will save, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman are all for sale this summer for the right price.
Bayern already has one Spanish international winger in their books in Bryan Zaragoza, currently on loan in Osasuna, although he could also be on the move this summer. Previously it was rumor that Williams would prefer a switch to the Premier League, but it should not be excluded that he will also stay in Bilbao, given the presence of his brother and his deep bond with the club.
