Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala sustained a suspected broken ankle on Saturday during the first half of their World Cup Quarter final against Paris St. Germain on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Germany international was injured in extra time before the break after a collision in the PSG's criminal area. While Musiala defender William Pacho challenged the ball, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma rolled unintentionally over the left ankle of Musiala and turned it under an alarming angle.
The Bayern medical team ran into the field when Donnarumma, visibly shaken, fell on the ground with his hands on his head in disbelief at the severity of the injury. Players from both teams formed a circle around Musiala that was worn on a stretcher off the field.
Referee Anthony Taylor brought the first half to an early conclusion after the incident with the scores level at 0-0.
Musiala has developed into one of the best young players in the world since breaking the Bayern First team in 2020. The young person has already collected 40 caps for the Senior Germany team and has been appointed three times in the Bundesliga team of the season.
