Harry Kane ended his long waiting time for the first team trophy of his career when Bayern Munich got the Bundesliga title – without playing – on Sunday.
The celebrations of Bayern were put on hold the day earlier when Yussef Poulsen scored a stop-time goal to earn RB Leipzig a 3-3 draw and to let the leaders wait.
But Leverkusen, who had to win in Freiburg on Sunday to stay mathematically in the hunt, were held on a 2-2 draw that this weekend the Bavarian Crown.
Kane was forced to look at RB Leipzig after he had picked up a fifth yellow card of the season, and went to the touchline expecting the party in the 94th minute.
But the 31-year-old captain of England comes back for Saturday's home game against Monchengladbach, because Bayern can watch celebrating with their fans in the Allianz.
Kane has played a huge role in securing the 34th league -crown of Bayern, to which the Bundesliga scor cards with 24 goals are at the top, but in his 15th season as a professional – and two years after leaving the Tottenham boys' club – he finally holds silverware.
After 11 straight Bundesliga titles, Bayern shot with the club last season in the first year of Kane, when Invincible Bayer Leverkusen finished the top. But Bayern has regained the championship, with their victory in Leipzig and gives them an inviolable lead with two more rounds.
Kane, who has lost the final of Champions League and Carabao Cup at club level and has lost the European final with England twice, has broken Goal-Scoring Records in Germany, but now has the team title he longed.
Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, who won the championship with Burnley in 2022/23, has demanded his first major honor as a manager, while Kane's former England and Tottenham teammate Eric Dier also celebrates the first team trophy of his career.
Kane's long wait is passed – even more?
Analysis by Sky Sports' Adam Bate:
It has taken nearly 700 career writings for club and country, but Harry Kane finally has a trophy. It took longer than expected, not only in his career, but also in his time in Bayern Munich. But the Bundesliga title is his – and how he deserves it.
Kane had become a curiosity because of the enormous number of almost -missers in his career. From the latter defeat of Champions League with Tottenham to the two European final final with England, even his debut season with Bayern brought nothing.
That was the most challenging experience of the party that was given than Kane's move to Germany was seen as a guarantee for silverware. Bayern had won the title 11 years in a row prior to his arrival. They even lost the Supercup on Thuisgras in his first game.
But all have continued to flow the goals for the top scorer of all time of England. He is certainly the Bundesliga top scorer for a second consecutive season, his paving rate is simply amazing for a player who can fall deeply and create for others.
The figures tell the story, although there is still an idea of what could have been. The Bundesliga title remains the absolute minimum at Bayern. In a year in which the Champions League final will be held in Munich at the end of May, that feeling is felt stronger.
Kane was bought for this goal to improve Bayern, to secure the Champions League that had delivered his much missed predecessor Robert Lewandowski. Until that time, the work is not complete. But the Bayern supporters know Kane's value and appreciate his ability.
Talking with another former Tottenham and Bayern striker Jurgen Klinsmann about Kane recently, he outlined why there is such a goodwill opposite him. “What he has done extremely well, you know, is that he has adapted to Germany, to Bavaria,” Klinsmann said.
“He became part of their lifestyle, part of the city. His family just slid in that kind of way of life there. And he is extremely important for the Bayern side. And he has done fantastic work from the first day. I am very happy for him. I mean, I just love to see him.”
At the age of 31 Kane himself has the right to count himself a pity that he should have waited for so long. But given his famous drive, it is unlikely that one title will saturate him. The most likely scenario is that it encourages him to look for more. Perhaps this Bundesliga title is just the beginning.
