Bayern preparing for Muller farewell in final home game

Newly crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are preparing for an emotional last home game of the season while saying goodbye to club legend Thomas Muller.

Bayern assured their 34th German title last Sunday without kicking a ball when Rivals Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw by Freiburg, giving the leaders an indisputable eight-point lead with two more games to play.

Although there is no more sports goal to achieve, coach Vincent Kompany says that Bayern will be ready to go when they organize ninth placed Borussia Monchengladbach in Muller's last home game on Saturday before he leaves for a free transfer.

Muller first came to Bayern at the age of 10 and helped them in 13 Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokal victories, eight DFL-SUPERCUPS and two champions competitions since his senior debut in 2008.

Kompany is determined to give Muller the broadcast he deserves and says: “This week has been the case every other week. We prepared because it is an important match for us.

“We are no less busy for the last two games. We will continue. We want to win this game, it is the last match of Thomas Muller in the Allianz Arena, it is a party for everyone.

“We want to experience a perfect Saturday if the preparation is good. It will not be an easy task, the opponents are good.”

Last month Muller only became the 13th player who made 500 Bundesliga performances and the fourth to do this with all his trips for a single club.

Karl-Heinz Korbel (602 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt), Manfred Kaltz (581 for Hamburg) and Michael Lameck (518 for Bochum) are the only other men of one club that touch that brand.

“It will certainly be very emotional, I don't know if Thomas or the people around him anymore,” Kompany added.

“These are great moments, I have experienced it myself. I also know that Thomas is still a hunter who always wants to show what we can do. He has a very special relationship with the fans.”

Muller has largely been a replacement this season and Kompany is known as strict when it comes to revealing his line -up prior to games.

When asked whether the 35-year-old would start against Gladbach, the former defender of Manchester City hinted that this will be the case.

“I want to stay consistent, but I'm not stupid, so let's wait tomorrow. I don't want to spoil the party,” said Kompany.
