Tottenham -midfielder James Maddison has sustained a front cruciate ligament injury and is expected to miss most of the coming season.
Sources have told BBC Sport that Maddison will undergo surgery and will be an absentee in the long term if he starts his recovery program.
The 28-year-old sustained the injury last weekend in the pre-season draw against Newcastle in South Korea.
Manager Thomas Frank confirmed after the match that Maddison had injured the same knee that had registered him from the Euroopa League -Lateeest victory against Manchester United in May.
Since the return of Asia to Monday, Maddison has undergone tests in recent days to determine the severity of the injury.
Initial fears were that Maddison had contracted a cruciate ligament injury and those worries have now been realized.
