Belal Muhammad shreds Sean Strickland as he vows to move up for grudge fight

UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad is still aiming for a middleweight move, whether his rival Sean Strickland is in the title picture or not.

As Muhammad prepares to defend his title against Shavkat Rakhmnonov, Strickland rematches Dricus Du Plessis for the middleweight title at UFC 312. 'Remember the Name' would like to move up to middleweight at some point in the future.

Belal Muhammad hopes Sean Strickland loses UFC 312 title fight and 'doesn't wake up'

Speaking on Submission Radio, Muhammad criticized Strickland, noting that he would rather have Strickland get knocked out by Du Plessis and not wake up.

'I hope not [Strickland defeats Du Plessis]; I hope he loses, goes unconscious and doesn't wake up,” Muhammad said. Either way, I would always want to come out and fight him, whether he has the belt or not. That would always be a fight I would always say yes to.

“[…] He is literally the definition of trailer trash. . . . So if he says all these stupid things, people should make him pay for it.”

Strickland-Muhammad is probably a middleweight scrap; if both men lose their next fights, they could face a No. 1 ranked middleweight showdown. On the other hand, if they win their next fights, Mohammed will get his first shot at a dual championship.

Belal Muhammad's welterweight title picture intensifies

Muhammad's next welterweight title defense is guaranteed against Rakhmonov, who took the '0' from Ian Garry at UFC 310. In the meantime, another contender could be created in the March 22 London Fight Night headliner between Leon Edwards and Jack Della Maddalena, reported by Aussie MMA insider 'Benny P'.

Former champion Edwards looks to avenge his defeat to Muhammad at UFC 304, while Maddalena looks for his first UFC championship opportunity. A decisive win for both men puts them on par after Rakhmonov.
