Craig Bellamy is not surprised that people as a man United are interested in signing Liam Delap, but has warned the 22-year-old that he might be better off to stay in Ipswich.
Delap has won admirers by scoring 12 goals for the relegation-threatened tractor boys since the signing of Manchester City for £ 20 million last summer.
Man United made Delap their No. 1 Spits -Swit this summer and are ready to activate his release clause of approximately £ 40 million if Ipswich is banned from the Premier League.
Wales Baas Bellamy kept a close eye on Delap, especially when he coached Burnley, and explained why the England star was attracting such an interest before he even completed his first season in the top flight.
“I watched him quite a bit,” Bellamy told Sky Sports.
'It was clear that I was aware of his progression in Manchester City. But we (Burnley) came across him on loan. He was on loan in Stoke and Preston. It wasn't that easy for him, but you could see a young player develop.
“One thing you took away is that he has a little bit of everything.
“He's fast, he looks behind it. He can secure the ball, he can bring others into play.
“He is very selfless, which I also liked about him. You can see that he has come from the man City's like that.
“This has been a really big year for him. To do it at the highest level, as he did with a team fighting against relegation at this current moment is not always easy. '
Bellamy also revealed that he tried to sign Delap from Man City while he acted head coach of Burnley, but was gazzumped by Premier League Bound Ipswich.
The 45-year-old expects that a new bidding war for Delap will follow, but has advised the young people that he might be better off to stay under the custody of Kieran McKenna.
When asked if there will be a queue clubs who want to sign Delap, Bellamy said: 'Without a doubt.
'I asked him around June around June and I was immediately told that he is going for big money. So I understood that – no problem.
'With the kind of clubs that was behind him then, I thought it was a good move by Ipswich; They did well to get him. He will have other options again.
'Ipswich is a very good football club. He has a good support system around him, a good manager (McKenna). I don't see a hurry for him.
“I really believe he will be a top player.”
