Bellingham: Madrid ‘nowhere near it’ during Arsenal defeat

Jude Bellingham admitted that Real Madrid was lucky to only lose 3-0 against Arsenal in the first stage of their quarter-final of Champions League.

The reigning champions have to do it all if they want to keep their newest title defense alive, after an impressive defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal scored three times in the room of 17 second half minutes, because a few beautiful Declan Rice Free-Kicks was followed by a neat first finish by Mikel Merino.

And Bellingham knows that he and his teammates have to produce “something very special” to destroy their shortage in the second stage of next week in the Santiago Bernabeu.

“We were nowhere in the neighborhood,” he told Amazon Prime. “That is the fact and Arsenal was really good. I know that two of their goals were free kicks, but they could have had much more.

“There is a second stage and that is what we hold. We need something very special, really something crazy, but a place where crazy things happen is our house.

“[We have] 90 more minutes at home to pull something out of the bag.

“They are two great pieces of individual quality and, if they were not for them, they still had other opportunities. We were punished and that happens at the top level.

“In these games you have to create more. Very rarely do you come to a place like this, score one goal and take your lead back home. They really responded well to the transition. We didn't do enough on the ball to threaten.

“We still live, we have 90 minutes of football and everything can happen at the Bernabeu.”

If Madrid goes to the semi -final of the competition, they must for the first time in their history to destroy a shortage of three goals.

But Carlo Ancelotti insists that the draw is not nearly over.

“The result means that Arsenal was much better than we do,” he said.

“The game was a bit different. For 60 minutes the game was the same and then they shot two fantastic free kicks. The game changes. Now it will be very difficult in the second stage.

“There is always a first time [to overturn a three-goal first-leg deficit]. The only thing you can do together is trying, and we will try. The comeback starts tonight. “
