Askren, 41, is a former Bellator and a Weltergewige champion that fought three times under the UFC banner. He defeated UFC Hall from Famer Robbie Lawler at UFC 235 in his only victory in the promotion.

2025 has been a whirlwind for Askren after a Staph infection spread to his lungs, giving him a double lung transplantation and as he described, so that he 'dies' four times in the hospital four times. After weeks of medical care, Askren is reunited with his family and returns home after his horrible test.

In a recent video posted on X, Askren shared the good news with his friends, family and supporters.

“What is boys! Day 59, and I'm gone!” Askren announced.

“With my beautiful woman, supportive. Man, that was a long journey, and it is not over because I still can't really walk. I have to learn to do that again, among many other things. I think I can make it light because it was me, and I don't really remember it …

“It was difficult, it was difficult. And I said this in one of the videos, but the support you gave me, if it sent a GoFundme, my children and wife helped through it, I had friends from all over the country to just hang around for a few days. It meant so much, it was so great to get all the support and love.

“Hopefully I am very, very, very long in this situation in this situation.

In a recent message on social media, Masvidal shared a heart -warming message for Askren and offered to visit his former UFC rival and 'pray with him'. Masvidal outdown Askren in the fastest finish in the UFC history on UFC 239.

UFC CEO Dana White recently confirmed that he has donated a large amount of Askren to help cover his medical costs after the transplant. White and Askren had a checkered relationship during their time to work together.

Askren withdrew from MMA after a loss for Demian Maia in October 2019. He withdrew with a 19-2 professional MMA record and focused his full-time attention for coaching wrestling perspectives.
